Samsung Display has confirmed they are working on rollable and sliding displays, not unlike the one that LG showcased during CES 2021. The Korean conglomerate’s display division had some interesting tidbits to share besides this confirmation.
Choi Kwon, Senior VP of Samsung Display has taken the stage after the company published its quarterly report and said that their first rollable and sliding displays will reach the market this year. It is sensible to assume that Samsung’s mobile phone division will be the first to experiment with and deploy these displays before the TV division does, but a confirmation in this regard hasn’t been made.
Meanwhile, foldable displays are picking up all kinds of neat tricks. We know that Samsung is concentrating on bringing variable refresh rates and power consumption optimization for their regular OLEDs to stay competitive in the face of growing competition. For the time being, we can only speculate what new technologies will be implemented in the upcoming Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3.
