WhatsApp Suspends Support For Series40 Phones

Years after Nokia has stopped producing phones based on the S40 platform, WhatsApp, one of the most popular instant messaging platforms has announced that they’re suspending support for them. On the 31st of December 2018, phones running S40 have sent their last messages using WhatsApp. In 2017, support for Nokia S60, Windows Phone 8.0 (and older) and BlackBerry OS was removed and now with the removal of classic Nokia feature phones, a whole era has come to an end. Officially, the wide majority of the phones launched in the last decade cannot use the service anymore.

Of course, this removal of support doesn’t apply to new Nokia devices launched by HMD since these rune operating systems based on KaiOS, YunOS and other, not the old and aging S40. WhatsApp has plans to also stop support for Android phones running Gingerbread version 2.3.7 and earlier as well as iOS 7 and earlier starting from the 1st of February 2020. Presently, new accounts cannot be created from such devices.
